We Love Our City

We Love Our City in Full EFFECT!

If love is an action, then the We Love Our City group is living up to the definition. Many congregations in Federal Way come together each year to serve their city in a variety of ways. We see serve days like these across the Puget Sound and are always encouraged to hear more stories like this one.

This year the annual Serve Day turned into a serve weekend! A couple of the congregations participated on Saturday this year. 15 core churches (approximately 450 people) divided into 16 teams that served at the Blueberry Farm, Westway neighborhood, Boys & Girls Club, Steel Lake Park, Light of Christ, Truman & Olympic View community gardens, FW Day Center, Illahee clothing bank. Teams also assembled l50 leis with toiletries, painted rocks to be hidden in local parks, created positive posters for a local school & created gift bags & wrote thank you notes for veterans at the William J Woods Veterans House. Teams picked up 24 bags of trash, did some yard work, mowed lawns & washed cars for a variety of families in local neighborhoods. We were joined by Young Life & a team from Union Gospel Mission. The UGM team prepared sack lunches & distributed them at several areas around FW.

Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission was invited to bring an outreach van to participate with the serve day. Typically the outreach van goes out later in the evenings, when people are getting ready for bed, and when the weather can be colder and people may need things like blankets to keep warm. Going out during the day shed new light on the faces of the people we are serving and allowed us to really see the different challenges people are facing. We had great conversations, learned names of people in need, and offered sandwiches, hot cocoa, blankets, and hygiene items to twenty five people.

We Love Our City has a desire to continue to help unite churches, encourage people to discover & use their gifts & passions & love for our neighbors. Watch for more stories in Federal Way!
