Foster Care Seminar
Our new Foster Support Faith Alliance is bringing together churches to engage the foster care system, from South Seattle all the way up through Smokey Point, and soon to span down to South King County, as well. Local churches are gathering, across denominational lines, to meet with other churches in their community, as well as foster support agencies and local Children’s Administration representatives, to find out how they can best support the foster care system in their neighborhoods.
Did you know that foster care affects homelessness, incarceration and sex trafficking? If your church is seeking an up-stream, preventative approach to addressing these issues, you need look no further than the foster care system in your own backyard. Sadly, former foster children comprise a large percentage of all of these vulnerable populations and the system is in need of church support!
If you want to know more about the “why” of foster care ministry or how to implement a foster support ministry in your church, we have an incredible opportunity for you. Thursday, March 2nd is an Orphan Care Seminar that Seattle Union Gospel Mission is co-hosting with the Refresh Conference at Overlake Christian Church. Pastor Jason Johnson is flying in from Texas to lead this informative and inspiring seminar. Jason is a nationally-known speaker/ author/blogger on foster care ministry and the national director of church ministry initiatives at Christian Alliance for Orphans (CAFO)!
Jason is great at helping church leaders implement structures and strategies of orphan care ministry within their pre-existing theological and programmatic ministry frameworks. If you are interested in learning more about foster support ministry, or if you already have a passion for foster care but need guidance in how to implement it programmatically, then this seminar is perfect for you! Whether you’re a pastor or lay leader, you will come away both inspired and equipped to engage in this important work.
You’ll also get the chance to hear from other churches in our area about what they’re doing to engage the foster care system and plenty of time to network with other churches in your community.
