“Move On” is one of my favorite songs from the 90’s by The Rentals. While you may not know the song, the theme of the song is familiar – sometimes you have to move on and while it can be sad to leave friends, it allows for opportunities to create new paths and impact other’s lives.
So this time is bittersweet as our beloved intern from Oklahoma, Austin Bowles, leaves Light Up The City. Austin has been with us for the past 9 months as a Serve Seattle intern, a program through Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission where young adults from 18-27 come from all over the country to learn about urban-based ministry. Part of their busy weekly schedule involves 18 hours of interning for Seattle non-profits.
Austin came to us willing to learn and help out however needed. He quickly stepped in and contributed to our blog- researching ideas and writing articles that support our network. Many of the articles this past year were penned by him and we are so thankful for his humor, punctuality and grace (he endured lots of jokes about being Oklahoma State University’s mascot Pistol Pete).
So while we search for another intern, who preferably is a school mascot, we wish Austin all the best as he goes off to travel Australia and wherever God leads him in his next journey. Thank you Austin—moving on is hard to do, but we are confident you’ll have a big impact wherever you go next!
