Brave: Your Story Matters

Last Saturday, May 20th, 35 teen girls in foster care and some of their foster moms gathered at the White Center Salvation Army community center for a one-day empowerment conference called Brave: Your Story Matters. This Brave event was hosted by Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission’s Foster Support Faith Alliance in partnership with the Salvation Army Church. The idea for Brave came out of 7th Street church in Long Beach, California, but this is the first time the event has been replicated in the state of Washington. The goal of Brave was that churches from all over our region would come together to remind girls ages 12-18 who are or have been in foster care, that they are worth celebrating! 45 v

School & Church Partnerships!

For the past couple of years we have promoted and helped foster school and church partnerships through a simple day of service called CityServe. We have encouraged our networks to help out schools as simple ways to engage their city, again by simply serving one of the most attended and sometimes under-resourced organizations in our community. We have been amazed to see outlying cities Federal Way, Tukwila, Shoreline and others in similar ways, while last year 26 congregations in Seattle served 22 different schools in the Seattle School District. This year Bethany Community Church kicks off the season of serving by helping a few local schools- the and Phil Maulding write up a little summati

LUTC Quarterly - Engage Refugees

(Deuteronomy 10:18-19) This month we are hosting our Quarterly Gathering asking how and even why the Church can/should engage the current refugee crisis? We will be hearing from experts in this field from World Relief and from a few ministries and even some congregations who have engaged in different ways. As always lunch will be provided- doors open at 11 am at Lake Burien Presbyterian. Plea

Love Thy Neighbor(hood)

“This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Once again men and women of ripe old age will sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each of them with cane in hand because of their age. The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there.” Zech 8:4-5 As one travels the streets and highways around Seattle, one cannot help but notice the vast number of cranes and construction projects around the city. The rapid development occurring throughout the Emerald City has made the city wealthier in many ways, but it has also made it difficult for families and communities to have a sense of “place” that tethers them to a particular area. This is true of congregations in and around Seattle that are la
